B4Soil is a voluntary Technical Standard that defines a quantitative approach to monitoring soil health. By combining in situ sampling, advanced analyses and remote sensing data, it builds a sustainability index based on transparent, reproducible and verifiable procedures, supporting sustainability assessment and the adoption of good soil management practices.
The B4Soil Protocol consists of four integrated phases combining fieldwork, analysis and data processing.
We sample soil in situ and, following the protocols defined by the standard, subject the samples to in-depth analyses to assess soil health and its indicators.
We combine field data with satellite remote sensing information and environmental indices to track changes in soil conditions over time and support the interpretation of results.
We process the collected data into a composite B4Soil score, built according to the methodological criteria defined by the standard. The score provides a structured summary of results, ensuring comparable and reproducible assessments.
We make data available in a structured and traceable form to support verification processes and make it suitable for B4Soil certification issued by the certification body, as part of assessments based on objective evidence.

The B4S method combines laboratory physico-chemical analyses, biological indicators and satellite data to evaluate soil health in a structured way. The result is a standardized assessment system that enables comparisons across sites, territories and monitoring cycles.
Soil structure, pH, organic matter, nutrients and exchange capacity.
Soil organic carbon (SOC), nitrates and vegetation cover.
Soil Water Index (SWI) and water retention capacity.
Biodiversity index and biological soil quality.
The B4S Certification documents soil health using defined and verifiable parameters. A transparency tool for companies, territories and supply chains that want to demonstrate their environmental performance.
Discover the Technical Standard

Soil is a fundamental resource, underpinning food production, ecosystems and the resilience of territories, alongside water and solar energy. Yet its value is often taken for granted and rarely measured in a structured way.
B4Soil helps make sustainable, ethical and attentive soil management visible and valuable, turning concrete practices into measurable and verifiable data. The Technical Standard provides the tools to credibly demonstrate a commitment to responsible soil management, going beyond statements and relying on objective evidence.
B4Soil does not promise simple solutions to complex challenges. It offers a method to interpret, understand and communicate the value of soil as a strategic resource for the future.
